Google acquires Grandcentral

Sorry I'm a bit late in reporting this.  Google has acquired Grandcentral, a provider of a Voice 2.0 service that separates phone numbers from underlying phone services (in effect a voice proxy service).

This is of course great news for the Grandcentral folks, it also gives Google yet another feature to add to its Google office applications including Gmail.  I'd expect we'll see Google compete with virtual IVR/PBX services from companies such as Ring Central and Virtual PBX.
