Leaving Miami Early

Due to the impending snow-storm in the Mid-Atlantic, I've decided to leave the sunny, 80 degree confines of Miami to be home to experience the 5" or more of snow that we're expecting in D.C. over the next two days. This, on the surface, seems like a strange move, but given that I was scheduled already to fly home Thursday evening, I figure this lessens my chances of being stuck in the airport Thursday night.

Unfortunately it means I won't get a chance to sit in on the remaining sessions at Internet Telephony Expo. So far it seems as if the show has been successful. The morning keynote addresses by AT&T and Lucent were standing-room only. I also was able to attend a session on VoIP security presented by NetRake and Yariba. Fortunately they stayed away from the "are SBC's Evil" debate and focused on real-world security threats and mitigation strategies. SBCs may be "evil" according to some SIP purists, but for now they are seen by service providers as being a necessary component of a secure VoIP service offering.

Once again congrats to Rich Tehrani and crew for a great event.
